Details: Vintage Still-Life SALVATORE GRIPPI OIL ON BOARD 1984 Artist Signed American New York School Ithaca College Color Pop-Expressionist Original Artwork

This pop-expressionist still-life oil painting on canvas bears the signature of its creator, noted New York School artist Salvatore Grippi and is dated 1984.

The piece measures approximately 60.5" x 61" in its frame.

In an excerpt from a short essay written for his 2011 exhibition at Cornell University's Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Grippi describes this work and others like it: "The still life paintings are not done from objects arranged in studio setups. I paint the still life as a mental landscape rather than a described physical reality. Common objects, such as beer cans, bags, boxes, and fruit shapes, familiar but not particularized, are culled from memory as I work. In flux, advancing and retreating, the objects move flotsam-like in a borderless expanse. The still life approaches the memory of the beach invasions of WWII."
