Worth Auctions is pleased to be offering a number of rare works by the important New York School painter Salvatore Grippi, who worked and exhibited alongside the likes of de Kooning, Nevelson, and Kline during the heyday of Abstract Expressionism in the 1950s. In 1968, Grippi established the art department at Ithaca College, where he taught until 1991. In 2011, he was honored with a solo retrospective at Cornell University's Johnson Museum of Art. This was the last time that Grippi's work was displayed in his hometown - until now. Worth Auctions is pleased and proud to be offering Grippi's works to the public. He was a significant figure in postwar abstraction and his work from this period has graced the walls of MoMA, the Whitney, and the Met but has seldom appeared at auction. Details: Early 20th Century GLOBE-WERNICKE CO BARRISTER BOOKCASE Antique Oak Furniture Brass Fittings 4 Collapsible Sections Set Decorative Display Case

This antique early 20th century oak barrister bookcase is comprised of 4 sections produced by the Globe-Wernicke Company of Cincinnati, Ohio, and is complete with its base, top cover, and brass pulls and fittings. The collapsible sections measure 34" x 61" together with the base and cover. Two sections measure approximately 13.5" high each, one section measures approximately 11.5" high, and the last section measures approximately 9.75" inches high. All of the sections have a depth of 9". Each section appears to have its original glass window.
