Worth Auctions is a family-owned and operated company, hosted by Worth Asset Brokerage, an expanding services firm made up of multiple independent companies. Consignment services were launched in the 1990’s, primarily selling rare and collectible books online when the internet was just beginning to take shape. During its development, company management has embraced all manner of selling methods including online auction, online retail, bricks-and-mortar retail, and live auction. In 2004, the company purchased a retail space in Ithaca, New York and the first gallery-based book and ephemera auction was held under the National Book Auctions brand on January 23rd, 2005. In the Spring of 2016, National Book Auctions came under the umbrella at Worth Asset Brokerage, joining Worth Auctions in a new multi-gallery facility in Freeville, NY, a few miles east of Ithaca. The auction model refined through NBA continues today at Worth, with auctions that are open to the public and also incorporate online absentee bidding prior to and real-time online during the auction, in addition to absentee and phone bidding available directly through the galleries.
Since the earliest days, consignment work has always been a part of the services offered and today, it is the backbone. Early in the company’s history, inventory was frequently purchased at estate and other auctions. On several occasions, company buyers acquired individual items that were worth small fortunes, for very low hammer prices. This pattern demonstrated that an important market was being underserved. Hence, the galleries have been forged with the very deliberate plan to act as advocates for heirs, institutions and individuals with personal property to sell, who need critical expertise to market their material for a sound return.
The dedicated and expert staff of Worth Auctions draw upon decades of experience in the worlds of art, antiques, collectibles and all manner of personal property. Since the earliest days, these partner companies have sold hundreds of thousands of items through live auction and online markets. The methods used by both galleries today to market high value and collectible materials are effective because they are highly evolved and embrace the most current trends in values and collecting patterns.
Worth Auctions gallery is located just 10 minutes north east of downtown Ithaca on Route 13 (just past NYSEG). Local area accommodations within a 5-minute drive. For more information, call 607-330-0358.
